Tap, tap, tap...

I snuggled under my doona exhausted after my day at school. As I lay there, I heard mum and dad talking about a girl that got kidnapped in the neighbourhood. I wondered what it would be like to have no where to live, no family and no food. The thoughts made me sad, and I got scared for the little girl.
As I was drifting off to sleep in my warm, cosy bed, I heard a tap, tap, tap on the window. What was it? Who was out there? I wasn’t going to go and look outside so I made myself think it was the wind. Then I drifted off to sleep.
I woke up, it was a school day. I was snuggled up in my nice and warm bed trying to go back to sleep but knowing I had to get up or I would be late for school. I was about to get up when my bedroom door started opening. I pulled the doona over my head. I was scared, very scared. Who was haunting me? What did they want...? Then someone jumped on me. I started to scream 100 miles an hour. The person then pulled the doona off my head. All of the sudden I felt a sense of relief. It was not a ghost, vampire, kidnapper or killer it was my seven year old brother playing a trick on me.
“Lukas, why did you scare me like that?”
“April Fools!” Cackled Lukas with a cheeky grin on his face.
“Please don’t scare me like that again Lukas. You scared the living day lights out of me.” Cried Chloe.

“Lukas, Chloe breakfast is ready!” yelled their mum from downstairs. Chloe quickly shooed Lukas out of her bedroom so she could get dressed. She turned the light on so she could see.

The lights flicked on and off, the fan started spinning by itself and the blinds started swaying backwards and forwards in the cool morning breeze. What was going on? Who was haunting her, why were they haunting her? What did they want to do with her? Or was Lukas playing another trick on Chloe?

Chloe got herself organised for school and went down to breakfast. Chloe slowly sat herself down on a chair. “Here is your toast Chloe.” Mumbled Chloe’s mum. Chloe’s toast was black. When she touched it, it crumbled in her hands. What was wrong with her mum? She usually is the best toast maker in the world. “Mum what’s wrong. Why are you sad?”
“I’m not sad it’s just I have been thinking about that little girl. She would be about your age. It just makes me sad to think of anything happening to you...” mums voice trailed off.

The day came to an end and Chloe found herself tucked into bed once again. Tap, tap, tap. “What was that?” asked Chloe. The noise repeated itself. Chloe’s body tensed up.
“Pardon honey!” yelled Chloe’s mum.
“Um nothing mum” replied Chloe. The sounds continued Chloe was getting frantic.

Chloe’s heart started racing. She knew she had to go look out the window, she just had too. Chloe slowly got out of bed. She cautiously walked over to the curtains and peeped out.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!” screamed Chloe. Chloe saw the little girl standing motionless, staring into Chloe’s bedroom. She was as pale as a ghost, her hair was matted and untidy.
“Hello, I am the little girl that was kidnapped in this neighbourhood 2 weeks ago. I have been given the death sentence of stealing screams from children. I feed off children’s screams. I go around and haunt children. Each time I haunt a child I eat their scream. One scream for me is like one meal to you. One scream makes me a step closer to my feast. Mwahahahahara...I have been living off mostly your friend’s screams. I have been spying on you trying to find out where your friends live. I know where all of your best friends, and where your enemies live. I just need your scream to forfill my feast”. Chloe started shaking. She was terrified. She did not want to give the little girl her scream. What would happen if Chloe gave the little girl her scream? Would Chloe die? Would she turn into a ratty looking person like the little girl? Would the little girl be human again? Would Chloe stay as a human being? Chloe did not know what would happen to her.

“I, I , I don’t want to die. I want to stay as a human being. My life has always been perfect and nothing but perfect.” Cried Chloe.
“Your life will not change at all you are just helping me become a normal human again nothing else. I promise nothing at all will change. Just please, please, PLEASE help me. I have been going back to my house every night watching my family. It is so sad to watch them. Please help me, it will not affect anything in your life. It will only help me.”
“Fine I will think about it...” mumbled Chloe.
“I will take the scream tomorrow when you are in bed ok.”
“Bbbbbye.” Chloe hopped back into bed thinking of what might happen when she screams.

The next day flew by and soon it was time for bed. The little girl was going to scare her any minute. Chloe was terrified. She was so scared. Chloe did not want to die. She wanted to live her happy life.

Tap, tap, tap. “Oh no she’s back. What am I going to do?” Whispered Chloe.
Chloe slowly walked over to the blinds. She was shaking. From head. To toe. Chloe peeped out the window. There was no sign of a little girl at all. Whare was she?

Then…Out of nowhere Chloe saw a shadow creeping towards her. Chloe could not help it, she tried to hold it in but, she let out a HUGE scream.

“Mwahahahahar. I am now complete. I am a human again! I have sucked out your soul. You will now be forever haunting people in your neighbourhood Highton. So, be careful girls and boys. Make sure you don’t scream. If you do, maybe just maybe your soul will be taken by the neighbourhood ghost...”
